How To Best Manage Your Insurance Claim

When floods occur it can be very difficult and getting every thing back to normal it can take for ever. Normal routine must go on as you are living in the same property but having to working round the damage it has caused can be stressful.

It's important to stay focused and turn off all main water connections straight away. If it's a burst hot water pipe and you have a hot water tank, you will find the hot water will carry on until the hot water tank is switched off or empty. Call your insurance company and explain the situation and ask what you should do to make a claim.

They'll inform you to get in touch with an organization that restores carpets and give you a couple of companies to contact. The restorers will act very quickly on behalf of the insurance companies, as there job is to get the blowers on to your carpets. If they do not get the carpets dry with in the first 48 hours the water will go stale and smell, in this case, they will most probably have to change the carpets especially if you insist you are not happy.

For each claim an assessor will be appointed. They will need to visit you at home and go through the damage to the carpet and see who you have approached and what they have done to solve the situation, ie the carpet restorers.

The next step is to make some appointments with your local carpet companies to come round and quote on replacing the carpet. How ever this must be of the same or of equal quality to your existing carpet. Your assessor may make recommendations of who to use, always include some of your own contacts, as they may not have your best interest at heart.

Choosing the right company for you may be key as for most people. You can of course inform the assessor of who you would prefer to complete the work as they will take this into consideration. If the quotes are slightly higher you can always add money to make up the difference if need be.
