Teenagers in the home!

What carpet could I put down that would sustain the demands of a teenager.

A house full of teenagers, what could be more daunting. One thinks of all the noise they create be it music, loud voices whether through laughter or anger. Think of the food they divulge over one day at home and your bank balance starts shaking, there stomachs are never full they continuously need top ups. The size of them as they grow seems to take over the house, what once was a good size home now feels so small. Then their friends all come around to hang out and the house becomes even fuller and the noises get louder, but the joy of having them there enjoying themselves happily at home and out of harms way makes it all worth while.

What can I do about the state of their bedrooms? I would walk in and if I was lucky I may see the carpet under the clothes, plates, glasses and sporting equipment. The number of times I had to tell them to clean it up and I would get 'Yeah, when I've finished this' and I would still be waiting a couple of days later. In desperation I would go in there with a rubbish bag when no one was around and start tidying and finally I could see the carpet. After surveying the tidy rooms I took a closer look and realised the rooms really needed a make over. Teenagers do get past the baby blues and pinks and those cartoon character curtains. Maybe if I put down new carpet, painted the walls and put up new blinds they would keep their rooms tidier, you never know.

What carpet could I put down that would sustain the demands of a teenager? When I looked into the types of carpets I found you have the choice of so many blends wool, wool blend, nylon, polypropylene and solution dyed carpets. I decided the latest polypropylene carpet was the way to go, they are stain resistant, easy to clean and hard wearing, but best of all they are affordable. With their many textures, patterns and designs my teenagers were able to choose one that they liked. Due to the carpets affordability this means in 5 years time when the guarantee runs out we will be ready to put in a carpet through out the house which is our choice. I found you can even get a mobile service that brings everything including the showroom to you and I made sure my teenagers were there to help make the big decision. Painting of the room was no problem as there was a great range of wipeable and durable paints on the market in a fantastic variety of shades. I gave them a range of practical blinds to choice from and their bedrooms were regenerated. With the teenagers themselves doing the choosing and even helping with the painting, the days of messy bedrooms seems to be over.

Unfortunately this did not solve all our problems with teenagers but did help. Finding another room for them to socialise in was also a very good idea, we decided that the garage could be changed into a rumpus room. Once again we all painted the walls put up plenty of shelving and decided to cover up that concrete floor. We decided a good floor covering for that area would be a marine carpet which is hard wearing, weather and rot resistant, so even if we decide to park our car back in the garage it will not destroy the carpet. Should we leave the garage door open and it rains this will not ruin the carpet.

Now I find the house much larger as we have regained the lounge for your own use and those growing teenagers have got their own space to make the noise they all seem to enjoy making. With them having their own input into the decorating they are now more responsible for their own rooms and feel happy in their surroundings.
